Tat Twam Asi … That Thou Are

तत्त्वमसि is a Mahavakya of Samaveda, which when written in English Language is Tat Twam Asi, Tat Tvam Asi and TatTvamAsi and which means  That Thou Are, Thou Are That and You Are That … And where the word “That” means the Supreme being (or Brahman) …

तत्त्वमसि

Tat Twam Asi … Tat Tvam Asi … TatTvamAsi …

That Thou Are … Thou Are That … You Are That …

When spoken, this is as Tat Tvam Asi (or Tat Twam Asi or TatTvamAsi) …

This is the essence of Samaveda, whose seat in this world (i.e. Aamnaya Peetha which in simple words, is also addressed as Vyasa Peetha) is western Vedic monastery of Dwarika Sarada Math …

DD-1 … Meaning of Mahavakya of Tat Twam Asi … TatTvamAsi …

This means …

  • That Thou Are …
  • Thou Are That …
  • Brahma Thou Are …
  • IT Thou Are …
  • You Are That …
  • You are Brahman …
  • You are the Absolute being

The words “You and Thou” finally mean your own innermost essence (or Atman) …

In above statements …

  • “Thou” does not mean any individual … It means Innermost essence or Atman-of-all …
  • “IT” means Brahman (or supreme-omnipresent-essence) who itself is Atman (or innermost-essence) of all …
  • “That”, is Brahman, who itself is the Atman of all …
  • “Supreme”, is Brahman, who itself is the Atman of all …
  • “Brahma” is the creator of allness, but IT keeps ITself fully concealed (or veiled) in the background … Thus in reality everything is created by IT, but IT by ITself stays hidden within all that IT creates … This is as IT only is as the finally-detached pervader and enveloper of allness and her each part and due to being detached, IT ITself is the supreme witness (Sakshi) and supreme hermit (Param Sanyasi) who is addressed as Brahman in Vedas and who itself is the common-innermost-essence or self of all (Atman) …

And the same statement is also applicable to the fact which is of an eternal partless-unity of macrocosm and each microcosm and where vice-versa of this statement is also true …

This is due to the fact that “allness and her each part (i.e. Brahmand or macrocosm and each microcosm or each Pinda)” is none other than a self-expression, self-manifestation and self-presence of the same attributeless-infinite Absolute-being (Nirgun Nirakaar Brahm) who itself is That from which everything originally originates, everything is proceeding to IT and IT is also where everything finally dissolves so as to be as IT ITself is, just like a drop of water becomes the ocean after dissolving into the ocean …

Parambrahma (as is stated in below discussions) is one of the alternate names of Brahman (or Parabrahman) …
