Shiva Am I … I Am Shiva

 

I could not find a better end to this particular part of the text which deals with self-realization and that too whilst an aspirant only walks those highly hidden and thus secretive inward paths, “Himself within Himself (or Herself Within Herself, as the case may be)” and whilst keeping to the innermost essence of the wise words that there eventually is as “nowhere to go, nothing to do, nobody to be”, except to be as “That fully emancipated, supremely auspicious one (or Shiva)” … This is how each aspirant has eternally been and each aspirant has also been eternally continuing as this only … Just like Shiva himself is …

Emancipated is that auspiciousness which is free of bondage and liberation alike … So is Shiva …

Above by itself is within the supreme genius of Maker’s Makings, because within his Makings, the Maker never made any non liberated microcosm …

But because the humans forgot about this innermost reality and its paths, all of which lies hidden inside their own microcosm’s, so they started believing in all sorts of nonsensical systems of egoistic Gods, who somehow convinced them that they were not liberated and “which itself was and shall ever remain” against the supreme genius of Maker’s Makings, which is being told here …

 

GG-1 … Who Shiva …

The Sanskrit word “Shiva” literally means “ever-all, eternally-auspicious, conscious-knowledge and bliss” … Shiva thus means Brahman, who itself is as Atman of each aspirant …

But the word Shiva also means many other aspects, which have already been discussed at various stages of this text …

In this topic we shall discuss the Mahavakya (Great Statement) of Shivohum, which means Shiva Am I (I Am Shiva) … Shiva is the one who pervades and envelopes everything, everyone and is present everywhere during all of the triple times …

As discussed in earlier topics also, the word “I” does not mean the gross physical vehicle of an aspirant … “I” as is stated here is primarily denoting the innermost essence or the innermost essence or self or Atman of the aspirant …

Nirvana Shatakam was told by Gurudeva Adi Shankaracharya

This name of Nirvana Shatakam means “six stanzas of liberation” …

The word liberation also denotes Shiva only …

This was told by Gurudeva Adi Shankaracharya … It denotes the innermost essence of Vedanta which as such is Shiva, who himself is “Keval (isolation or liberation) or Kaivalya Moksha (Full, final and permanent isolation from allness and her each part)” …

 

 

मनोबुद्ध्यहंकार चित्तानि नाहं

श्रोत्रजिह्वे घ्राणनेत्रे

व्योम भूमिर्न तेजो वायुः

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ।।

 

Translation:

Manobuddhyahamkara chittani naham

Na ca srotrajihve na ca ghrananetre

Na ca vyoma bhoomir na tejo na vayuh

Chidanandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

 Meaning:

Neither am I the mind, nor intellect, nor ego, nor latent memory,

Neither am I the ears nor tongue nor nose nor eyes,

Neither am I the sky nor earth nor light nor wind,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I

 

 

प्राणसंज्ञो वै पंचवायुः,

वा सप्तधातुः वा पञ्चकोशः

वाक्पाणिपादौ चोपस्थपायु,

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् ।।

 

Translation:

Na ca pranasanjno na vai pancavayuh

Na va saptadhatur na va panchakoshah

Na vakpanipadau na copasthapayu

Chidanandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

Meaning:

Neither am I the energy (Prana Shakti) nor the five vital airs (breaths),

Neither am I the seven materials nor the five sheaths,

Neither am I the speech nor hands nor feet nor other organs,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I

 

 

मे द्वेषरागौ मे लोभमोहौ,

मदो नैव मे नैव मात्सर्यभावः I

धर्मो चार्थो कामो मोक्षः,

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् II

 

Translation:

Na me dvesaragau na me lobhamohau

Mado naiva me naiva matsaryabhavaḥ

Na dharmo na cartho na kamo na mokshah

Chidanandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

Meaning:

Neither do I have any hatred nor like or dislike nor any greed nor delusion,

Neither do I have any pride nor any feeling of envy (or jealousy),

Neither do I have a duty, nor desire nor lust nor do I have a craving for liberation,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I

 

 

पुण्यं पापं सौख्यं दुःखं,

मन्त्रो तीर्थो वेदा यज्ञ

अहं भोजनं नैव भोज्यं भोक्ता,

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम् II

 

Translation:

Na punyam na papam na saukhyam na dukham

Na mantro na tirtham na veda na yajna

Aham bhojanam naiva bhojyam na bhokta

Chidanandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

Meaning:

Neither do I have any virtue (merit) nor vice (demerit) nor joy nor suffering,

Neither do I need mantras nor pilgrimages nor Veda (study) nor sacrifices (offerings),

Neither am I the experienced, nor the experience nor the experiencer of anything,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I

 

 

न मे मृत्युशंका न मे जातिभेदः,

पिता नैव मे नैव माता न जन्मः I

न बन्धुर्न मित्रं गुरूर्नैव शिष्यः,

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम्

 

Translation:

Na me mrityusanka na me jatibhedah

Pita naiva me naiva mata na janmah

Na bandhur na mitram gurunaiva shishyah

Chidanandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

Meaning:

Neither do I have fear (or doubt) of death nor do I have any caste or creed,

Neither do I have any father nor any mother nor did I take birth,

Neither do I have any relative nor any friend nor any Guru nor any disciple,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I

 

 

अहं निर्विकल्पो निराकार रूपो,

विभुत्वाच सर्वत्र सर्वेन्द्रियाणाम्

चासङ्गतं नैव मुक्तिर्न मेयः,

चिदानन्दरूपः शिवोऽहम् शिवोऽहम्

 

Translation:

Aham nirvikalpo nirakaar roopo

Vibhutva ca sarvatra sarvendriyanam

Na chasangatam naiva muktirna meyah

Chidinandaroopah Shivo’hum Shivo’hum

 

Meaning:

I am without alternates (non-dual, without attributes) and formless (Infinite),

I exist everywhere, in everything and in everyone, pervading all senses,

I am always in equanimity, neither in bondage nor liberated,

The eternal-infinite conscious-bliss Shiva am I, Shiva am I
